LDHS seniors Segun Ijiyera and Chris Slater will continue their football careers at the college level as they pursue higher education degrees. LDHS held a signing day celebration for the athletes on April 13 with parents, teachers, friends, teammates and coaches in attendance.
Segun Ijiyera, son of Abiodun and Vwem Ijiyera, signed with Houston Baptist. The 13-year senior and 3-year letterman has many accomplishments on the football field including 3 First Team All District awards, First Team All Area and Academic All State Honorable Mention. Segun plans to pursue a career in Business Management.
“I chose Houston Baptist because it is good opportunity in a great city,” Segun said.
LDHS Head Football Coach Michael Young said "Segun is a three year varsity starter and team Captain, Segun has been a leader on and off the field. He has been an A-B student all four years of high school. His smile and positive energy will be missed."
Chris Slater, son of Bill and Christine Slater, signed with Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. He is a 13-year senior and 2-year Falcon football letterman who has received 1st Team All District and 1st Team All Area honors. Chris plans to major in Sports Medicine.
He chose Blinn College because it gave him a great opportunity to continue playing football.
“Chris has worked hard to make himself one of the best wide receivers in the district,” Coach Young said. "He has been involved in our youth football program for several years. Chris is a tremendous young man who will successful in his college career."
